My Story
The ADHD Husband: Empathy, Compassion, and Transformation
Welcome to The ADHD Husband.
My name is Bruce Abbott, and I am passionate about helping men navigate the challenges of living with ADHD / ADD and it’s impact on relationships. From the rock bottom depths of a painful end to a long term relationship, to the peace and understanding of ADHD and a rewarding marriage today, it’s through this intense personal journey of self-discovery and growth that I have gained invaluable insights into the world of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and relationships. I have made every mistake available, and learned from these mistakes to help you. I am committed to using my experiences to empower others.
As a child, I always knew I was different, but I couldn’t quite put my finger on why. I struggled with friendships and relationships. I sought validation from others, constantly yearning for acceptance and understanding. Little did I know that my quest for validation was the result of an underlying condition that was shaping my life in ways I couldn’t comprehend at the time.
It wasn’t until later in life that I discovered the term “ADHD” and began to connect the dots. Fast forward through years of feeling stuck in various aspects of my life, including my career and relationships, and enduring the pain of the ending of a long term relationship, I found myself on the verge of destroying a marriage due to my low self-esteem, lack of vision and purpose, destructive thought patterns, and self-sabotaging actions. It was a dark and challenging period, but it also served as the catalyst for a profound moment of clarity.
Through my role as a parent, I witnessed my children navigating profound clinical ADHD. As I educated myself about their condition, participated in their clinical treatments, and provided support, I couldn’t help but wonder if this was the root cause of my own struggles. I delved deeper into research, sought professional guidance, and underwent a comprehensive evaluation. My diagnosis was both a relief and a turning point in my life.
Armed with this newfound understanding, I embarked on a journey of transformation. I sought prescription treatment, engaged in therapy, and actively pursued coaching for personal growth. It was during this process that I began to peel back the layers of self-doubt and negative self-perception that had plagued me for so long. Bit by bit, I rebuilt my self-esteem and developed healthier thinking patterns and behaviors. From here my purpose and vision for life were coming into focus.
While my own transformation is still a work in progress, it awakened within me a burning desire to share my knowledge and experiences with others. I realized that my journey could serve as a beacon of hope for other men facing similar challenges. I wanted to create a safe space for men where empathy, compassion, and understanding were paramount, and so The ADHD Husband was born.
To equip myself with the necessary tools to guide others effectively, I became an accredited Certified Professional Coach (CPC) through the University of Houston and a neurolinguistic programming (NLP) master practitioner. These credentials, combined with my personal experiences, allow me to connect with men on a deep level, providing them with the support and strategies they need to navigate the complexities of life and marriage (including long term relationships) for men living with ADHD and ADD.
At The ADHD Husband, my mission is clear: as a coach, to empower men with ADHD / ADD to unlock their full potential and lead fulfilling lives. I firmly believe that a diagnosis should never be viewed as a limitation but rather as an opportunity for growth and self-discovery. Through personalized coaching, tailored strategies, and a wealth of resources, I aim to inspire and guide individuals to embrace their unique strengths and thrive in all aspects of their lives.
I understand firsthand the challenges that men with ADHD face in their personal relationships, careers, and overall well-being. By leveraging my own experiences, professional training, and a deep sense of empathy, I create a supportive and non-judgmental environment where men can explore their struggles and find effective solutions. Together, we work towards building thinking enhancing self-esteem, improving communication skills, and fostering healthy relationships.
As I continue on my journey of personal growth and development, I am dedicated to expanding my knowledge and staying at the forefront of ADHD / ADD research, relationship and coaching techniques. I believe in the power of continuous learning and self-improvement, as it enables me to provide the highest level of support to those who entrust me with their journey.
If you’re a man living with ADHD, or if you suspect you may have ADHD and are searching for answers, I invite you to join The ADHD Husband community. Together, we will uncover your potential and purpose, challenge your destructive thinking patterns, ineffective coping skills, and self-sabotaging behaviors, and create a life and marriage that is defined by fulfillment.
I look forward to walking alongside you on your unique journey of transformation, empowering you to embrace your ADHD, and helping you thrive in all areas of your life. I am not here to diagnose ADHD, but if you have been diagnosed (or think you may need a diagnosis from a licensed medical professional), let’s embark on this adventure together and unlock the incredible relationship potential that lies within you!
With empathy, compassion, and a steadfast commitment to your growth,
Bruce
